How to Book the Elevator for a Condo or Apartment Move in Edmonton

Moving into or out of a condo or apartment in Edmonton usually means sharing a building with neighbours, and most buildings have rules about when and how you can use the elevator. Sorting this out early keeps your move on schedule and avoids surprise delays. Here is a simple guide from The Squad Movers, an Edmonton-based moving company.

1. Contact your building manager or condo board first

As soon as you have a move date, contact the property manager, condo board or building office. Ask whether the building requires a booking for the elevator, and how far in advance. Popular days, such as month-end weekends, can fill up quickly, so ask early.

2. Ask about the rules and any deposit

Many buildings set specific move-in and move-out hours, and some ask for a refundable damage deposit or proof of insurance. Ask for the rules in writing so you and your movers are on the same page. We are a locally owned moving company, and we can help you plan around the rules your building asks for.

3. Reserve the elevator and the loading area

Ask whether the building has a dedicated service or freight elevator, and where trucks can park. If the loading zone is limited, tell us ahead of time so we can plan the truck position and the carrying route.

4. Protect the building

Ask whether the building will put protective pads on the elevator walls and floors, or whether you are expected to. Lay down floor protection at entrances and hallways where needed. This helps protect the property and your deposit.

5. Pack and stage before the elevator window starts

Your elevator booking is often a fixed window. Have boxes packed, labelled and grouped near the door, and disassemble large furniture beforehand if you can. Furniture disassembly and reassembly is included with our service at no extra charge, so we can take care of beds and tables on the day.

6. Plan for the other end too

If you are moving between two buildings, confirm the rules at both. A booking at one end does not help if the other building has no time available.

What you will not be charged extra for

We do not charge extra for stairs or elevators, whether you are on the main floor or the twentieth. You choose between flat-rate and hourly pricing, and you can call us for a free, no-obligation estimate.
